Big box & chains › Groceries
Bastrop has one H-E-B and it is the big format. Here is what is on the site, what hours each part of it keeps, and what to do if you live at the other end of the county.
The county has two H-E-Bs, and the difference between them is the thing worth knowing before you drive.
Each site has its own H-E-B Fuel station and H-E-B Pharmacy, mapped separately below because they keep their own hours, which are not the store's hours.
The plus! format is the full supermarket plus general merchandise — homewares, small appliances, seasonal, toys, and a much bigger non-food footprint than a standard store carries. In practice it is the difference between driving to Bastrop for groceries and driving to Bastrop for groceries and everything else on the list. If your errand is only food, Elgin's store does that job without the Highway 71 traffic.
H-E-B is the rare national-scale retailer that is genuinely regional by choice. It does not operate outside Texas and Mexico, it is not listed on any exchange, and it has spent a century building its reputation on two things that matter in a county like this one: local sourcing, and turning up during disasters. Its mobile kitchens and disaster relief units are a fixture after Texas hurricanes and freezes, and that is a large part of why Texans talk about a grocery chain the way other places talk about a football team.
Company facts above are matters of public record. Everything about the Bastrop store specifically comes from the map data below.
There is no H-E-B in Smithville. Its full-size grocer is Brookshire Brothers, which is employee-owned and a genuinely different proposition. Elgin has both an H-E-B and its own Walmart. For the small communities — McDade, Paige, Cedar Creek, Red Rock — Dollar General is very often the only shop in town, which is a real fact about rural Texas rather than a recommendation.
6 entries — the store, the fuel station and the pharmacy are mapped separately because they keep separate hours.

The independent version. Plenty of what a chain sells here is also sold by somebody who lives in this county. See the independent grocery businesses in the directory — each one scored on how good its website is, which is the part we can actually help with.
Addresses, hours and coordinates come from OpenStreetMap contributors, filtered to the Bastrop County boundary, with phone numbers from the Bastrop Regional Chamber directory where OSM had none. Chain hours change for holidays and get remodelled without anybody updating a map, so treat what is here as a good guide and the retailer's own page as the authority. Spotted something wrong? wholetechtexas@gmail.com and it gets fixed.
